Unfinished Hardwood
Unfinished solid hardwood floors are crafted from solid wood planks that have been left untreated so you can add the lacquer, stain, or other coating that suits your design needs. These planks are milled from single pieces of timber, then planed and sanded to various sizes and finishes. Choose from a variety of different wood species. You’ll also find a variety of pine options. Despite being considered a softwood, pine is a popular and versatile choice for floor planks. Each wood species brings a different tone to your living space, but all offer a lasting, classic appeal.
The major advantage of laying an unfinished solid hardwood floor is the flexibility it offers in terms of design theme and overall aesthetic. Finish your floor however you like—stain it the color of your choice, or use a clear varnish or lacquer to let the natural beauty of the wood grain shine through.
Before choosing a wood species, you might want to consider the day-to-day wear that your flooring will encounter. Each wood species has a rating on the Janka scale, which indicates how hard it is.
